COMMUNITY RELATIONS SPECIALIST – Treasure Coast

MAJOR FUNCTION: Ensures public awareness of 211 and its crisis, information, assessment and referral services and acts as 211’s liaison with the media and community at large in the Treasure Coast.
REPORTS TO: Development Director
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

1. Serves as the visible representative of 211 Palm Beach/Treasure Coast, providing information and promotional materials as appropriate.
2. Establishes professional relationships with major stakeholders (i.e., School Districts, Police/Fire Rescue, Medical Community, Boards of County Commissioners) and agencies that provide health, human, educational, community, and government services to alert them to the services of 211 and engage them in promoting 211.
3. Identifies and cultivates opportunities to work with the media (radio, TV, and print) including the writing and submission of press releases, articles, and filler ads, giving interviews, and developing/distributing PSA’s.
4. Identifies and cultivates opportunities to speak to civic and community organizations regarding 211 and its services.
5. Participates in and develops collaborative relationships with professional groups to increase community awareness of 211 within the business communities (i.e. Chambers, Networking Groups, etc.).
6. Initiates and manages logistics of 3rd party community outreach and/or fundraising events.
7. Provides the Database Specialists with both new and updated agency information for inclusion in the community resource database.
8. Works closely with the Development Director & Community Affairs to develop a strong Treasure Coast Advisory Sub-Board, which includes identifying individuals to serve, developing roles & responsibilities, and scheduling meetings with a solid agenda.
9. In conjunction with the Development Director and Board of Directors, assists the annual Treasure Coast marketing plan for the agency.
10. Responsible for other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements

1. Sufficient sight to read computer screens with or without accommodation.
2. Sufficient hearing and speaking ability to communicate over the phone, in person, and before groups with or without accommodation.
3. Sufficient manual dexterity and strength to fold, organize, package, lift and carry community presentation materials weighing up to thirty (30) pounds with or without accommodation.
4. Sufficient manual dexterity to record and enter data in a computer system with or without accommodation.
5. Ability to travel throughout a multi-county area with or without accommodation.

Education/Training

1. Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited college, preferably in Marketing, Public Relations or Communication, strongly preferred.
2. 1-3 years experience in marketing, public or media relations, or community relations; experience working in the nonprofit sector is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

1. Excellent communication skills, orally, in writing, and in public speaking.
2. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
3. Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships.
4. Basic Computer skills with knowledge of Social Media
5. Assumes a professional manner and appearance at all times.
6. Requires good attendance and punctuality.
7. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends.
