Overwhelmed?  Confused? Depressed? Suicidal?

Teen years are often confusing. Sometimes it may feel like your life has been turned upside down. Concerns about school, friends, parents, relationships, body changes, and plans for your future are common challenges you may face. 

Most young people go through times when they feel down, confused moody, and unhappy. During these times it is important to talk to someone about what is bothering you, especially if these feelings last for a long time and things get worse as time goes on.

Feeling overwhelmed? Not sure what to do?

211 has developed this guide specifically for young people to help them cope with the life stresses that are unique to them and provide resources to help them live well.

  • Lots of valuable information & resources at your fingertips!

  • Sections of the guide have been bookmarked so that you can find the topics that are relevant to you.

  • Emergency numbers are found within the first couple pages.

  • Ask your school guidance or nurse if they have copies you can keep- if not email info@211pbtc.org to locate a copy.

  • Share the information with your friends & family- you can make a difference!

Building Resilience & Wellbeing


To be emotionally resilient means having the ability to cope with a difficult or stressful time.

People do not respond in the same way to traumatic and stressful life events. Developing resilience is a personal journey. Resilience involves maintaining flexibility and balance in your life as you deal with stressful circumstances. Step forward and deal with your problems and meet the demands of daily living and also step back to rest and reenergize yourself. Follow these ten tips to live a more Resilient life.

Stay Connected
Nurture relationships with friends and family and accept help from those that care about you.

Have a Sense of Purpose
Do things that bring meaning to your life and give you purpose.

Learn Healthy Habits
Exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, and take time to rest.

Believe in Yourself
Recognize your personal strengths and build on the positive and take pride on your accomplishments.

Laugh Often
Hold on to your sense of humor. Laughter relieves stress and helps you keep things in check.

Express Your Emotions
Make sure to have outlets to express your emotions; meditate, write a journal, and talk with a friend or counsellor.

Be Optimistic
A positive, hopeful outlook will make you much more resilient. Remember that many of the problems you face are just temporary and can be overcome with time.

Keep Perspective
Try not to get stressed out about the elements you can’t control focus on the elements you can.

Be Imperfect
Accept and work with your flaws and imperfections - everyone has them!

Learn Lessons.
Focus on the positive lessons you can learn from your experience.
